Lower Plenty are a four-piece named for the Melbourne suburb from which they come. Their first record “Hard Rubbish” really impressed me and “Life//Thrills” shows that the group has just gotten better. Best described as “lo-fi,” Lower Plenty fit in the Austrailian music spectrum somewhere between Pumice and Courtney Barnett (but I’m sure they’re tired of hearing her name). Their members play in other bands like Total Control, Deaf Wish, The Focus and UV Race. The songs switch between male vocals (one of the two dudes singing) and female lead vocals. The male vocals sound at times like David Berman of the Silver Jews and Robert Scott of The Bats while the female vocals sound like early Chan Marshall or Nico.
