Kim Chase, Contest Winner

Submitted by Michael McAfee on Mon, 01/21/2008 - 00:06.

In the case of Ms. Kim Chase reading this blog, your call-in prizes of a mix tape and a candy bar will be available at the KVRX station tomorrow at 1 PM. Thanks for calling in to win!

For everybody else, I'll be leaving this business on the coffee table in the main room at the station. The bar is poisonous to everybody except Kim Chase and the mix tape is only audible to her, kind of like a dog whistle. The moral of this entry is, please don't touch Kim's well deserved prizes.

Sun Sets on Cumbia Legend

Submitted by Michael McAfee on Tue, 10/16/2007 - 16:32.

I've mentioned this on my show a few times, but since I peaked on my number of listeners (7!) this past September, I'll say it here again. One of Texas' foremost cumbia and norteƱo musicians, Mr. Fito Olivares, decided to hang 'em up this past summer. One of the most noticeable names in the last generation of cumbia musicians, Fito is citing the need to rest as the main reason for his retirement. After all, the man's been patrolling the dusty highways of the southwest and northern Mexico for almost 40 years!
