Artist Hour: Silver Jews

Submitted by mandrake on Sat, 12/12/2009 - 13:23.

Join me tonight (Saturday) from 10-11pm as I eulogize the dearly-departed Silver Jews. Almost as long as I've been at KVRX I've been talking about doing a Silver Jews Artist Hour, and that hour is near. After this and my show at midnight, I'm signing off KVRX for good, and I'm taking the Joos with me.

Artist Hour: Marmoset

Submitted by mandrake on Sat, 09/05/2009 - 14:11.

Tonight I will be playing music by one of my favorite bands in the whole world: Marmoset. From Indianapolis, they are (in my humble opinion) one of the most criminally underrated bands of our generation. So overlooked, they didn't even make the Topless 39 this week, despite being in the newbin. For shame. Tune in tonight at 10PM when I give the band their due respect on the airwaves.

Rock 'n Roll Gitmo

Submitted by mandrake on Tue, 08/18/2009 - 15:41.

The High Strung, famously known for playing shows in libraries, were invited by the US military to play a few shows at Guantanamo Bay Library. What follows is a very strange and interesting account of their experience. Article is kinda lengthy but is a fascinating read.

An insider's look at Gitmo, from the perspective of an "indie" rock band (probably a bunch of anti-'murica socialists) from Detroit.

Xiu Xiu KVRX ID

So Xiu Xiu (pronounced Sh-oo Sh-oo, apparently) are playing a show at Salvage Vanguard in April and Jamie Stewart was nice (and intrepid) enough to record a neat-o plug spot, just for KVRX. Have a listen...
