Pimping the Public Library
So I was at a coffee shop the other day and Syd Barrett was playing over the radio. He asked me if I would miss him and my answer was yes so I searched for him on the APL internet catalog: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/library
They had a best of compilation (CD ROCK BARR)
(BTW they have The Madcap Laughs at the Fine Arts Library: MU 39922)
and two CDS by the Television Personalities (song "I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives)
One was titled early singles and rarities and after a little wikipedia research I decided to place it on hold.
There are a lot of things that are adorable about this album
Yes Darling, but is it Art?

There are a a lot of things that are honest about this album
Pimping the Public Library: Latin Sounds of the Library
Welcome back to this semester's first edition of Pimping the Public Library. Your guide to the vast sea of musical selections from the vast sea of Austin's public libraries!
Tonight we discover the Americas with the two disc release: Latin Sounds of the Past: Original Recordings 1927-1941.
This is a nice compilation of popular music from the larger Latin American countries- Mexico, Brazil, Argentina etc. Many of these songs are familiar to our western ears but are earlier inspirations from a Latin artist - La Cucaracha or Mexicali Rose.
Pimping the Public Library: Funky Beats
Welcome back to Pimping the Public Library. Every week I enlighten you to a particular cd the Austin Public Library has in their mountainous volumes of holdings.
This week's selection:
Si Para Usted: Funky Beats of Revolutionary Cuba Vol 1

Call Number: CD LATIN SI
If you thought Grupo Fantasma was cool check out this compilation to hear where it all began. Indeed each track is funkier than the last. The funkiest probably being the title track Si Para Usted by Grupo Monumental.
The label, Waxing Deep Records, began as a radio show hosted by Dan Zacks. It is currently on an extended hiatus but you can download every show on the web site:
