Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her, 17 (Polystar 1998)
More than just a weird band name (taken from an XTC song), the hypnotically skewed alt rock of Japanese singer/guitarist Aiga Higurashi and company can veer from sweetly melodic to Beefheart-bizarre in a single song.
TX Rock - The Wannabes, Mod Flower Cake (DejaDisc 1994)
The Dead Lotus Society is a metal band based in Denver but originally hailing from Austin, fronted by the enigmatic Hyatt. She is a walking contradiction, sporting adorable dresses and bright pink hair, but singing with a deafening roar. Hyatt will be my special guest tonight at 8pm, and we'll be talking about The Dead Lotus Society's upcoming album and SXSW performance. The Dead Lotus Society will be performing at the Heart of Texas Rockfest at 7th and Neches on Saturday night, 11pm. The show is free, and no wristbands or badges are required.
CommentsTune in to Video Vocal tonight from 7 to 8 PM as I have local film score composer and DJ Brian Satterwhite of KMFA's Film Score Focus on the show. We will be playing and discussing some of our favorite film soundtracks and getting all cinema-y on the ol' radio.
CommentsOn this week's Artist Hour (Saturday, 10 PM) we will be exploring the vast catologue of London's Wire. Pink Flag (1977) has been called one of the most original debuts to come out of England's punk-scene and have released 12 albums through 2011 and plan to release a new album "Change Becomes Us" in March 2013.
