"None of the Hits, All of the Time"
Community Programming Application for Fall 2008

READ ME FIRST: This is the Community Programming Show Application for KVRX Austin. This application contains four sections. Everyone must fill out the first two sections. New deejays should complete section three-A and returning deejays should complete section three-B. When you have finished with this application, it will be emailed to the Community Programming Department (cp@kvrx.org). The earlier your application is turned in, the better chance you have of getting a show. Deadline for applications for Fall 2008 is August 15th. It is possible for you to apply and get a show after this date, but applications turned in on time will be given higher priority.

MANDATORY CP SHOW REQUIREMENTS - Please do not apply to be a CP DJ if these present a problem for you.

Hosts: Your show must have a total of at least three hosts who will be responsible for producing and broadcasting each weekly show (training is required and provided for all hosts). All hosts must be UT students.
Topic: Your show can be about mostly anything - local politics; spoken entirely in German or Spanish (or any other language); local Austin film culture (i.e. Austin Film Festival, SXSW Film Festival); social work; mothers; or human rights. Though your show as a whole can be about anything, this does not mean you can half-ass each episode and just get on the air and "talk." That doesn't work. You will have to conduct research, bring people to interview, and get creative. Every week. Consistently and professionally.
Meetings: Attend KVRX meetings every other week, Wednesdays at 7PM. Mandatory.
Station volunteer work: Every CP show will be required to participate in or host one community event per semester that is related to their CP show. For example, I host a weekly CP show featuring cannibal documentaries and other films. To fulfill my requirement I could host a KVRX film festival; I could table at Austin Film Festival or SXSW Film Festival; or I could come up with something totally amazing on my own. This will require some work and planning (help provided).
Blogs: Update and maintain a weekly blog, at the minimum, to market your show (training provided).

In addition, agreeing to be a deejay means you will be subscribed to the KVRX-LOVE emailing list. This is one of the important ways information is imparted to deejays; generally, list traffic is light, an average of 15-20 messages per week. Subscribe here.
Part Two - Scheduling and Interview Questions
Free-response questions are limited to 3000 characters or less.
Please list when you absolutely CANNOT do a show (AKA when you have classes/work). Be as exact as possible. For instance, "Tuesdays 7-10 pm" is better than "Tuesday evenings."
When would you prefer to do a show? A good example would be, "Afternoons are good for me." Please give us your first few preferences, but keep in mind that not everyone's preferences will be satisfied. Returning DJs, please be realistic.
What is your show about? Give me an idea of what a typical show would be like. What topics would you cover, and what is the overall theme and idea? Be as specific as possible. If selected, you will be joining an award-winning CP department, and you must be able to put in research, time, preparedness, and whatever it takes to make your show successful.
How long do you want your show to be? CP shows are usually 30 minutes or 1 hour. Remember, you will be talking almost the entire time.
Why would this show be a benefit to our community (how does it involve the UT community and the Austin community)?
How would your show be unique to any other CP show on KVRX?
How will your show achieve KVRX's goal to present our audience with radio shows that do not resemble mainstream media?
Part Three-A - New DJs Only
Why do you want to host a community programming show at KVRX?
List any related work you have done in the past (experience is not a requirement).
Have you done any work with KVRX in the past? Be specific.
How did you hear about KVRX? Be specific.
Part Three-B - Returning DJs Only
List all the radio timeslots that you have had at KVRX since the beginning of time. Please list the day, time, semester & year of your past shows; indicate whether your shows have been real audio (internet) or FM. Seriously, do it. If you need more space, please fill out the comments box at the bottom of the page.
List four (4) things you have done for the station this past semester. Please include the department in which you did your volunteer hours (reviewed CDs? Pictures at local live? Tabling?)
Part Four - Submit Application
PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT: All KVRX deejays must be students of the University of Texas at Austin. Please indicate your student standing by signing the following statement. Without your signature, this application cannot be processed.

I agree to allow TSM/KVRX management to search UT records for verification of my standing as a UT student.
