“None of the Hits, All of the Time”
DJ Application for Fall 2008

READ ME FIRST: This application contains four sections. Everyone must fill out the first two sections. New deejays should complete section three-A and returning deejays should complete section three-B. Any returning DJ wishing to do a specialty show should also fill out the specialty show application (which is not included here). When you have finished with this application, it will be emailed to the Programming Department (pm@kvrx.org). The earlier your application is turned in, the better chance you have of getting a show. Deadline for applications for Fall 2008 is August 15th. It is possible for you to apply and get a show after this date, but applications turned in on time will be given higher priority.

When will you be back from break?
Attendance at KVRX meetings – every other Wednesday at 7 p.m. – is mandatory. You must also complete two hours of volunteer work each month for every hour of a show you have at KVRX (i.e. if your show is two hours long, you have to do four hours a month). Please do not apply to be a deejay if this presents a problem for you. There are other positions at the station with less of a time commitment. Also, be aware that we require our DJs to play NONE OF THE HITS, ALL OF THE TIME. We focus on independent non-mainstream artists from a variety of genres.

In addition, agreeing to be a deejay means you will be subscribed to the KVRX-LOVE emailing list. This is one of the important ways information is imparted to deejays; generally, list traffic is light, an average of 15-20 messages per week. Subscribe here.
Part Two - Scheduling and Interview Questions
Free-response questions are limited to 3000 characters or less.
Please list when you absolutely CANNOT do a show (AKA when you have classes/work). Be as exact as possible. For instance, “Tuesdays 7-10 pm” is better than “Tuesday evenings.”
When would you prefer to do a show? A good example would be, “Afternoons are good for me.” (If it is your first semester at KVRX, you will be on Real Audio between 9am-7pm weekdays and 9am-10pm Saturday and Sunday.) Please give us your first few preferences, but keep in mind that not everyone’s preferences will be satisfied. Returning DJs, please be realistic.
Why do you want to do a show at KVRX?
Have you done any other work at KVRX in the past? Be specific. (This is not required but it helps if you have)
Part Three-A - New DJs Only
How did you hear about KVRX? Be specific. (Friend? Flyer? Heard us? Tabling? We just want to know what works for recruitment)
List any related work you have done in the past (experience is not a requirement).
Please list 35 artists you would play on your show. Please note that we do not play music that is on mainstream radio – fill out accordingly.
Part Three-B - Returning DJs Only
Are you willing to be an awesome sub deejay or an extra-awesome emergency sub? We look kindly upon those who do.
List all the radio timeslots that you have had at KVRX since the beginning of time. Please list the day, time, semester & year of your past shows; indicate whether your shows have been real audio (internet) or FM. Seriously, do it. If you need more space, please fill out the comments box at the bottom of the page.
List four (4) things you have done for the station this past semester. Please include the department in which you did your volunteer hours (reviewed CDs? Pictures at local live? Tabling?)
Part Four - Submit Application
PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT: All KVRX deejays must be students of the University of Texas at Austin. Please indicate your student standing by signing the following statement. Without your signature, this application cannot be processed.

I agree to allow TSM/KVRX management to search UT records for verification of my standing as a UT student.
