9/22: Animal Collective with Tickley Feather at Emo's

Tonight, the Animal Collective sold out Emo's. My best bud TJ (who also has the show after mine) and I tried to make it by 10 when the show was said to start, but after the obligatory stop for cash and cigarettes we were in the venue around 11. The show started off late with Tickley Feather, who I was looking forward to seeing, but I could hardly hear her over all the talking in the audience.

They upped the volume a little for the Animal Collective and by the time they came on at midnight, Emo's was packed. I was starting to sense the inevitable longing to sneak away from the sweaty crowd before they started playing, but I'm glad I stayed.

Honestly, I kind of fell of the Animal Collective Bandwagon around the time that Feels came out a couple years ago. I had only heard "Peacebone" off the new album before tonight, and was not terribly impressed. As for tonight's performance, I recognized only a few songs, and enjoyed the new songs most. They played "We Tigers" and "Who Could Win a Rabbit?", but I was a little thrown off by the abrasive sounding vocals.

The most notable things about the show tonight was the fact that all of the songs were incredibly upbeat. I couldn't remain disgruntled by the new album after smiling and dancing for an hour and a half.

P.S. The light show didn't hurt, either.
