New Radiohead!!! "In Rainbows"

Submitted by CaitCaitlinnn on Wed, 10/10/2007 - 13:46.

So everyone may or may not know that Radiohead released their seventh album to the public late last night (morning in the UK!). I know, right? How would everyone not know this you ask? Because Radiohead is SNEAKY! And pretty genious actually.

10 days ago (no seriously, just 10 days ago), Radiohead announced that the cd was done and being released on October 10th. They didn't announce this in a press release or anything. Just on a website. They didn't even go with a record label.

"Hello everyone.
Well, the new album is finished, and it's coming out in 10 days;
We've called it In Rainbows.
Love from us all.
Jonny"

Prior to this spontaneous release, there were a couple of "joke" announcements. Some people got RickRolled. More people still had no idea that Radiohead was coming out with a new cd.

What's even BETTER than a surprise Radiohead release?! YOU COULD FUCKING PAY HOWEVER MUCH YOU WANTED FOR IT!!!! Pick your price for a download! It's totally up to you! They're also releasing a box set - but that's pretty pricey and won't be released until Dec. 3rd - but I'm sure many fans will be grabbing those as well.

But - what's even better than a surprise Radiohead release AND a pick-your-own-price??!! THE CD IS AMAZING! In case you doubted... pssshh! Come on. It's Radiohead! I downloaded it last night around 2am, put it on my iPod and fell into a blissful Radiohead-induced sleep. Then my iPod alarm woke me up with it! It was great!

So, while you won't be hearing any of the album on the station, it still needs to be heard. Go listen to it already!

RickRolled?

Awesommme. How will I complete my Radiohead collection without the box set? Sigh.

RickRolled

RickRolled (or RickRoll'd) --> http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rickroll%27d

it's a cruel prank played on people who get their hopes up on the internets...

I'm pretty happy they did

I'm pretty happy they did this. It's a cool gesture to consumers and fits well with their/Thom's ideology.

On the other hand, I'm not too thrilled with the music. I've listened three times and am struggling to find an interesting tune or melody. Oh, I guess "Arpeggi" and "House of Cards" are pleasant enough.

But that's beside the point.

Radiohead is sneaky? Not

Radiohead is sneaky? Not really. Anybody who pays attention to blogs or Green Plastic.com probably knows about the new release. Radiohead publicized it on their website and Pitchfork hyped it up even more this past week. Nonetheless,it is a great tactic to get fans to pay $80 to physically have the vinyls,CDs, and artwork. I always enjoyed previous Radiohead album covers, so I don't expect anything less from this one.

actually they didn't

actually they didn't realease for any "ideological" reasons. they just wanted to do it cause it was easy. Johnny Greenwood- "People are making a big thing about it being against the industry or trying to change things for people but it's really not what motivated us to do it. It's more about feeling like it was right for us and feeling bored of what we were doing before." oh well. close to genius.
