Sun Sets on Cumbia Legend

I've mentioned this on my show a few times, but since I peaked on my number of listeners (7!) this past September, I'll say it here again. One of Texas' foremost cumbia and norteño musicians, Mr. Fito Olivares, decided to hang 'em up this past summer. One of the most noticeable names in the last generation of cumbia musicians, Fito is citing the need to rest as the main reason for his retirement. After all, the man's been patrolling the dusty highways of the southwest and northern Mexico for almost 40 years! I know that cumbia music is not a genre we touch on a lot at KVRX, so I encourage all of you to look up Sr. Olivares. With songs about kangaroos to cholesterol, you'll find a subject matter that you can relate to. Note: he is the cool cat with a saxophone around his waste or an accordian on his shoulders. He's much too busy to be singing or dancing.
