CMJ 2007 Music Marathon Update

Dear KVRX,

Music Director Chris Wigington & I are in some crazy basement in Brooklyn right now, after our first day and night of representing KVRX at the CMJ 2007 Music Marathon!

Highlights so far:
1. Waking up at 4AM to catch our 6 o'clock plane. Beautiful, cloudy views of North Texas lights from the sky.
2. Visiting Tom's Restaurant (of Seinfeld fame).
3. Picking up badges and gift bags (free energy drinks, anyone?) from CMJ headquarters in SoHo. Getting advertised at non-stop.
4. Visiting Times Square & Grand Central Station (I've never been here before)... and stealing M&Ms from the M&Ms store.
5. Seeing Blue Scholars (mediocre) and Q-Tip at Gramercy. Q-Tip was absolutely amazing and I'm not sure if anything we see after that will be able to top it. DJ Scratch and a band of musicians were backing him up, and DJ Scratch did some crazy moves including scratching under his leg, over his head, while taking of his shirt... for at least 4 minutes. They also pulled a young lady from the audience to rap on one of the songs and she was really impressive.
6. After their set Scratch said his friend "Andrew" would be DJing, but everyone left. Little did they know that Andrew = Andrew W.K., but there was a technical problem and he didn't DJ after all. Chris did talk to him for a bit, though. He was very friendly.
7. Finally getting to the place we stayed last night (totally exhausted), which is a crazy basement apartment of F.I.T. students that make costumes, and drink rum and Nair their legs in front of us... more adventures to come, I'm sure.

Once we figure out a means we'll be posting photos, and Chris should be making an update in the next day or two. Tonight we are going to see Dan Deacon and Deerhunter at Bowery Ballroom.

KVRX, we send you our love -

Stephanie Bonham, KVRX Station Manager
