CMJ - Weekend Update

Submitted by StephanieB on Sat, 10/20/2007 - 20:36.

The Dan Deacon show at Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday was pretty wild. The first half of the show was so much fun, but around the mid-way point I turned around and noticed that my backpack was completely opened up and someone had stolen Chris' shirt out of it. Luckily I had my valuables on my person. Minutes later, while trying to readjust, I dropped my camera (as seen in the video posted in Tim's blog) and busted the screen. I was pretty pissed at New York in that moment and left the dance floor. After Dan Deacon finished I realized the WORST THING EVER: I lost my CMJ badge in a frenzy of dancing. We've been managing without it and after the show, greasy pizza quickly helped to lift my spirits.

You can check Chris W's last entry for updates on our Thursday adventures.

Friday we hung out in Bed-Stuy for most of the day, then one of the ladies we stayed with was throwing an art show at Thompson Gallery so we headed over there for live screen-printing, muralism and video projections. Oh and I should also mention Red Bull, Vodka and cockroach costumes. We met a ridiculous amount of nice people that night, in the gallery and the street on our way to the Knitting Factory. We walked in on Old Time Relijun playing an amazing set. Chris and I jumped up and down the entire time they were playing and, as you may have heard, he has "grade a" moves. We also saw Ruins play last night, who I had never heard; it was only the drummer with some sort of effects pedal, but it was still impressive.

We're headed out for drinking, dancing, djs with new friends and Amsterdam kids, so check for more updates and photos soon. We're headed back to Austin in the morning!

One morning, as Stephanie B

One morning, as Stephanie B was waking up from anxious dreams, strung out on red bull and vodka, she discovered that in bed she had been changed into a monstrous cockroach costume.

Stole a shirt out of a backpack? How stupid and lame!

Seriously, who steals

Seriously, who steals someone's shirt? Talk about petty crime.

stealin'

I think they were trying to steal my other stuff, but I had my phone/wallet/camera on me, so that's what they found on top. I thought it was pretty lame, though, since they were obviously looking for stuff. I thought I'd be safe with the CMJ crowd, but you gotta watch-yo-back.

Safe with the CMJ crowd?

Safe with the CMJ crowd? Why? Cuz people in the music industry are so inherently decent? I guess they usually have more creative ways to rob you.
