TITLE: MOOG: The Electric Eclectics of DICK HYMAN
GENRE: Electronic/Space Pop/Avant-Pop
For fans of: Stereolab, moog, electronic zolo, space-age bachelor pad music
Picks: #5-Four Duets in Odd Meter, #6 The Minotaur
This compilation re-issues 12 of analog avant-popster Dick Hyman's compositions in the key of Moog. This is a relatively obscure chapter of electronic-pop history, now seeming retro-futuristic. Hyman sometimes veers into experimental analog processing (#4), occasionally settling into jazzy ultra-lounge space-age bachelor pad territory (#1), and even orbiting into the zany, sproing-y sphere of zolo (#5). Was this stuff ever really popular outside of 1960's hi-fi afficianados and electronic musicians? Certainly Hyman demonstrates the fine line between hip and nerd.
wow Owen. Great blogs.
wow Owen. Great blogs. Have you been saving this up all semester? It's lonely in blog land.

Actually I didn't realize these would go on the main page! I am still gettin' used to this here new-fangled KVRX dot org.
But maybe we should have an (informal?) policy where reviews get blogged as a matter of course...
