No secret: Gruff Rhys is my hero. Everything he does is pretty much the best thing ever; you're wrong if you disagree. Even his bad songs hold a special place in my heart. I play them so much that I trick my brain into thinking that they're still pretty damn good. So now I'm here with the new Neon Neon Stainless Style promo, courtesy of Lex Records. It's an eight-track sampler that ostensibly leads up to a longer, fuller album that's going to blow up in 2008.

Neon Neon is a collaboration between Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals and producer/musician Boom Bip. Check out their first two singles on http://www.myspace.com/neonx2 Watch out for "Raquel" in particular; it's smooth and a perfect homage to '80s pop music.

The album gets better, though. Watch out for "I Told Her on Alderaan" later in the year. I've only listened to it a few times, but my premature opinion is that will become a huge hit. "Sweat Shop," which features Yo Majesty!, is another stand-out.

I love this man.
