I will be featuring an interview with the incomparable Ms. Betty LaVette tonight on the Soul Revue! Ms. LaVette spent many weeks on the KVRX charts with her excellent 2007 album, Scene of the Crime. LaVette first cracked the R&B Top Ten in 1962 at the age of 16. Those two successes are the bookends of a career full of commercial disappointments and label drama. In 1972 LaVette went to Muscle Shoals for what was to be her breakthrough album on Atlantic, Child of the Seventies. The album was indefinitely shelved and wasn't heard until it was released by a small French label almost three decades later.
