Wear your Jeans to Work Day

Today is wear your jeans to work day. Why? Because the Italian Supreme Court has officially set us back 50 years in the humanist movement. A girl, age 18, was forcefully raped by her 45 year old driving instructor. He took her to an isolated road, pulled her out of the car, wrestled her out of one leg of her jeans and raped her. He then threatened to kill her if she told anyone. She actually summoned the courage to prosecute him, and he was convicted of rape and sent to jail. Later, he appealed the case, which went to the Italian Supreme Court, where the sentence was overturned. The Chief Judge stated, "Because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them, and by removing the jeans, she was consenting to rape." This perpetuates the myths that what people wear or how they react to an attack determines what the attack will be labelled. Instead of this being a rape, it is now just considered sex. Thus, the Italian Supreme Court has kicked us back into the 1950's. Good...
