This week we talked to our friend Ben about his experience coming out in college. He spoke on his experience being gay in a small Texas town. We discussed the importance of tolerance and understanding, even toward people who are less-than-tolerant of the gay community. Zoja, Rocky, and I explored the importance of understanding the population's mainstream conception of a "gender binary" and how we don't quite fit in with that conception although we are straight, white women. We informed the audience of UT's Gender and Sexuality center and we spoke on what it is to be an ally.
