Wicked Poseur is Arthur Bates, a tattoo artist and also waiter in Houston, who was the lead singer of The Real Energy and is joined on stage (according to the one time I saw WP) by a drum machine and Cley, the guitarist of bands like Hearts of Animals, Rose Ette, and Young Mammals, and full embody the "wicked poseur" life. Eschewing the twee-/dream-/indie-pop of Cley's bands, Wicked Poseur is a softer version of The Real Energy, sleeker, but with no less edge. A lot of the songs are an indictment of either the masses leading useless lives or the songwriter himself. Or maybe both, reflexive disdain/self-loathing. "Disco Wreck" is people watching the wannabe LA/NY club scene kids, staring at nothing b/c there's nothing left to do, or just flapping in the wind, fucking yr life away, like a legit plastic bag, easily replaced and essentially meaningless.
