May 15th is Nakba Day, commemorating the displacement and dispossession of the Palestinian people during the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.

Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Greece, Iran, Iraq, Israel (Yemenite), Jordan, Kuwait & Qatar,....Palestine

instrument of the day: qanun, a zither, primarily found in Arabic music; aaaand... DAM, a hip hop group (the first hip hop group) from Palestine, will be performing on May 8th at Scoot Inn

tonight's instrument: santur, a hammered dulcimer, native to Persia, Turkey, and Iraq, popular amongst folk musicians in Greece and Turkey
