Submitted by TheRevGetDown on Mon, 03/03/2008 - 16:32.

Tonight on the Afro-boogaloo Soul Revue we will pay our respects to legendary drummer and singer Buddy Miles. Miles, who spent the last three years of his life in Austin, is best known as the drummer for the Jimi Hendrix-led Band of Gypsys and the voice behind the California Raisins. He died at age 60 at his home last Tuesday. We'll be featuring the work from classic albums like Them Changes, Electric Church, Expressway To Your Skull, A Message to the People and We Got to Live Together. Tune in tonight from 10-11pm!

Buddy Miles, 1947-2008

The Buddy Miles Express has finally pulled into the station. The legendary drummer and singer died last night (Feb. 26, 2008) at his home in Austin at the age of 60. Admittedly, I was late jumping aboard the Buddy Miles Express. I stumbled across an old vinyl copy of his 1970 masterpiece Them Changes a couple years ago at Friends of Sound in South Austin. On the cover, the hefty Miles sits behind his American flag-emblazoned drum kit, rocking an afro so large it nearly obscures his vision. I had to hear this album.
