Privilege, Pornography, and Masculinity: Robert Jensen on KVRX

Robert Jensen is an associate professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. Jensen will be our guest on Upstream tonight, Thursday, February 28th. Jensen is the author of Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity (South End Press, 2007) and The Heart of Whiteness: Confronting Race, Racism and White Privilege (City Lights, 2005), among other works (see below.)

Tonight we will be discussing privilege and Jensen's most recent projects on pornography and masculinity. Upstream is social justice radio that goes against the mainstream flow.

Urban Roots: Youth Community Action for Food Justice

Max Elliot and Mike Evans from Urban Roots, a program of Youthlaunch, came on Upstream to talk about the local food movement, youth empowerment, and activism. Seven Straight Nights, National Coming Out Day

Wednesday night marked Austin's first Seven Straight Nights rally, an event created for allies of the LGBT community to show support. A partnership between Soulforce and Atticus Circle, supported by the Campus Alliance for Progress and Equality Now in Austin, were primary contributers for the Austin event.

The story of the Jena Six is receiving public attention, primarily because the case is so clearly wrought with racism and injustice. September 21st was a National Day of Action for the Jena Six, with tens of thousands of people rallying in support of the young men accused of attempted murder in Jena and across the nation.
