The “Electricity” coursed through the crowd on Saturday, and the ACL attendees levitated away with Radical Optimism from Dua Lipa. Oct. 12 was a night of tricks & treats granted by the enchantress herself.
Dua Lipa teased the audience with her sneaky seduction which lured each listener to join her prowess, only to jerk some tears after they wrapped around her fingers (talk about crying in the club).
After the emotional performance of “These Walls” off her latest album, the three-time Grammy winner provided Austinites with a special treat sure to relieve any pain from the song.
“See how loyal I am to you guys, that’s how much I love it,” Lipa said as she showed off her custom jersey from the University of Texas.
After acknowledging the cishet males of the crowd…it was Barbie time!
“Make me lose my mind,” the television flashed during the set’s transition. With this, the commencement to “Dance The Night Away,” proceeded.
Familiar favorites like “New Rules,” “Levitating” and “Don’t Start Now,” along with newer songs like “Happy For You” and “Illusion” united the masses to perpetuate the soaring nature of Dua Lipa’s masterful pop-dance grooves.
The singer also performed hit singles “Houdini” and “Training Season” off her latest album Radical Optimism. These songs were staples of Summer 2024, so it’s only fitting for them to be blasting as we send the year off to colder days.
Much like “Houdini,” Lipa hooked the audience to stare at the void on the stage during every disappearance she made; she faked her exit multiple times, shortening the distance between her and fans.
Removing the geriatric attendees from the front rows each time Lipa said “bye” was a final treat of the night for her true fans (me).
Dua Lipa’s send-off was anything but a “French Exit.”
