Ejercicio #Kinky

The funk-rock band from Monterrey, Mexico, Kinky, burst onto the rockero stage with infectious energy, unfazed by the blazing sun. Each band member sported a distinct style that left me longing to raid their closets. Lead singer Omar Gongora commanded attention in a vibrant UFO-like button-up, complemented by sleek black shades and a leather-esque Fedora. Meanwhile, bassist Carlos Chairez embodied the vaquero aesthetic from head to toe, complete with a sombrero and cowboy boots, even pausing to light a cigarette mid-set. Guitarist Gilberto Cerezo opted for a whimsical ensemble reminiscent of a character from a Wes Anderson film, with his light-colored car mechanic-inspired attire. Though obscured from my view, the drummer seamlessly melded traditional drums with electronic elements, effortlessly transitioning between percussion and synthesizer sounds.

Coyote interno. Aullido interno

"Inner Coyote. Inner Howl." Omar Gongora

Gongora, asked for the crowd to let their inner coyote out and howl at the moon despite the sun still being up during “Instintos Animales”. And the crowd did not hesitate. You were instantly transported to feel like you were surrounded by a pack of wolves. Whether you knew who it was on stage or not, everyone howled at the sun, because why not?

Estamos en el Besame mucho! Quiero verlos besando porfavor!!

"We are in the Besame mucho! I want to see yall kissing please!!!" Omar Gongora

Was the way Gongora introduced their hit collaboration of “Cómo te voy a Olvidar”. Like many artists across Latin America, Kinky too has a collaboration with Los Angeles Azules, and they made sure to give the audience a little cumbia moment to dance their heart out to.

Kinky is the type of band that never lets the party end and wants to party till they see the sunrise, and that is what their song “Después del After” is all about. Getting everyone excited about future acts and what is to come next at Besame, Kinky closed out with this funky, synthesized song.
