Nineteen-year-old California native, Ivan Cornejo took a day off from his SOLD OUT North America tour to make his debut Austin City Limits performance.
There were high expectations due to being one of the youngest ACL 2023 performers and he did not disappoint. Cornejo had just started the Texas section of his tour the day before in Laredo, so of course he needed to stop by this legendary festival and leave his unique mark. He is known for Spanish love (and breakup) songs that roll beautifully off his tongue, and I had never heard songs so smooth and captivating live before.
By the looks of his crowd though, I was not the only one.
When they were singing back every word to him or shaking their Ivan Cornejo sign in the air, there were tears leaving their eyes and emotion overcoming them simply from Cornejo’s impactful words.
During the performance, Cornejo wrapped himself in a Mexico flag thrown in from the crowd, another beautiful addition to his already breathtaking performance. Between the emotions, lyrics, and more, he was connecting with so many supporters in that crowd through many outlets that night.
