Levitation: Saturday Roundup

Levitation: Saturday Roundup

On Saturday we got a little bit psychedelic, we mellowed out the rock, but we kept the good vibes only Levitation can inspire.

As with our Friday Roundup, we’re here to give you a list of a few of our favorite performances from the jam-packed day. Of course we can’t get everyone: honorable mentions include Yīn Yīn, Model/Actriz, Swervedriver, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

Wednesday

Wednesday brought the controlled chaos we know and love them for during their angsty hour-long set. Backed by visuals reminiscent of a home video, Karly and the crew delivered a surprisingly intimate performance of tracks old and new. The band introduced Spider on guitar, whose tiny croc (pictured here) stole the show. Karly and steel pedal player, Xandy Chelmis, cracked jokes between tracks, fostering the all-around sweet environment. The performance of the underrated tune, “Fate Is…,” solidified Wednesday’s place as a Saturday favorite.

Blonde Redhead

Things got moody, fast, when Kazu Makino and twins Amedeo and Simone Pace of Blonde Redhead took to the indoor stage. Amedeo and Kazu swapped out on vocals throughout the set and delivered the floaty, space music we know and love from this ‘90s group. Though largely focused on their set, Blonde Redhead’s passivity to the crowd was inoffensive if only because Kazu’s siren song drowned out much else beyond respect. For the record, we knew Blonde Redhead would be a crowd favorite.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre

Delivering blaring shoegaze sounds amidst trippy, neon visuals, the iconic ‘90s group, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, brought sonic greatness to the Levitation stage. Maintaining a largely apathetic attitude towards the audience – only addressing the crowd to dedicate a song to the beautiful women in the audience – The Brain Jonestown Massacre spent their set curating a blend of heavy guitar and ample tambourine. Reaching their peak during a hypnotic performance of “Anemone,” The Brian Jonestown Massacre proved a highlight of Saturday’s lineup. - DJ Daffodil

The Ravonettes

Ever dreamy and oozing swagger, the Ravonettes made us cool by proximity when they took to the outdoor stage. The Danish rock duo gave us an upbeat and ambient show, taking us right to Copenhagen of the 2000s. Sune Rose Wagner, clad in an Ethel Cain tee, strummed on guitar with delicious mystery; while Sharin Foo, decked out in a black dress, sunglasses, and a baseball cap, lifted us up with her iconic voice. The Ravonettes were a force on Saturday evening, putting them on any music-lovers radar – if they weren’t already there.
