Major and year?
Biology/Math Senior

Which song, album, or artist initiated your love of music?
Taylor Swift, without a doubt. When I was in the fourth grade there were these cool girls who were freaking out about “Our Song” and I remember thinking “gosh I really have to check this song out.” I became obsessed after my first listen. For my 9th birthday my parents bought me Fearless on CD, the first CD I ever owned and it changed my life. I put the songs on my iPod and never stopped listening to it. Honestly, the only reason I play guitar and write songs is because I wanted to be like Taylor Swift. I don’t know if I would love music as much as I do now without T Swiz.

How did you first hear about or get involved with KVRX?
I heard about college radio from some friends who posted about their KVRX shows on their insta stories, but I was too scared to join. I asked my friend Ana (DJ Frog) if she wanted to do a radio show with me because she was my only friend at the time who was really into music. I remember we both signed up for DJ training at the same slot and got trained by the god-tier programmers Wes Simms and Carson Brown. Wes and Carson were so approachable and super cool (they still are)….Ana and I drank the KVRX Kool-Aid so fast. I am obsessed now. Don’t know what I’m going to do without it next year.

What is your first KVRX memory?
My first KVRX memory is getting DJ trained by Wes and Carson, but since I already talked about that I think my second KVRX memory was meeting Ariel, our old station manager, and wanting so badly to be as cool as her.

Which shows have you had on KVRX?
Frog & Fish with DJ Frog (Spring 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021): Freeform turned specialty

Romance Etc (Fall 2021): Specialty

Very Scary with DJ Baby and DJ Wormy (Fall 2021): CP

Which KVRX staff positions have you held?
Music Director since Summer 2020

How has KVRX affected your interaction with music?
KVRX taught me the beauty of the album. I’d always been a playlist/song girl until I joined KVRX and people started asking me questions like “have you listened to this album” and “name your top 3 albums that have come out this year.” I started to appreciate how an artist could put all of these themes and musical elements together from different songs to make a cohesive record. It’s really cool.

What's up outside of KVRX?
Hmmm I make music under the name Quiet Light, I’m a counselor for Camp Kesem, TA for a freshman lab on campus, and I work at Bananarchy if you ever want a chocolate covered frozen banana.

What is your favorite part of KVRX?
My favorite part of KVRX are the people I’ve met. This is the best thing to happen to me in college and I’m so grateful for everything it’s given me.

What advice would you give to new DJ's?
Don’t be afraid to approach other DJs and make new friends. I remember being really intimidated by everyone and feeling like I knew nothing about music. You are awesome, cool, and totally qualified to have a radio show.
