What's your position and how long have you been on staff?

Programming Director- since summer 2022. Was programming intern Spring 2022

What is your typical day like as a staff member?

Check emails M-F as DJs in training are submitting their mentor sheets and apply for shows. Constantly adding new shows on the schedule and seeing the week full up. It’s really exciting because we are very close to full programming for the whole week! For the weekend, we split up who does Training. So, for Sat/Sun we go to the station, introduce ourselves give the new DJs the run down on KVRX and the process of becoming a DJ. We show them around the booth and just converse to get to know each other.

What do you do outside of KVRX?

Besides boring school stuff, I love songwriting, playing my guitar, cooking, and taking long walks that put me out of breath.

What is the name of your show? What is your show about?

My show is “to the Moon”. It’s a freeform show I started freshmen year and just kept it going. The concept of the show starts out with slower music then gets more energetic before it slows down again. It’s like “going to the moon and back” type of roller coaster. That’s one way I look at it. The other meaning of the show name is a reference to amateur investors that say a stock is going “to the moon” which ties in with me being a biz major. Overall, I just like it because it sounds a bit euphoric and whimsical music like the music I like to incorporate during the show.

If you could only play one album on your show what album would it be? Why?

Honestly, I would say Man on the Moon III by Kid Cudi. It has been in my top 3x3 for weeks. I usually don’t listen to rap much, but I really enjoy his style of songwriting. The topics of his song are very real and evoke emotion unlike a lot of other rap artist of this time. In contrast, other favorite albums for mine include: Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen and Forklore by Taylor Swift

Favorite concert?

Embarrassing of me to be part of a radio station and have only gone to one concert. I’ve been to a couple small venues/bars in Houston/Austin with live music and ACL, but the only, technical, concert I’ve been to is Harry Styles this year. It was very surreal and the energy was vibrating off of every corner of Moody Center. I definitely can’t wait to go to more concerts and waste all my money lol!

If you could have your favorite artist sing you Happy Birthday who would it be and why?

Taylor Swift. She was the first artist I feel in love with when I was little and still am obsessed with to this day.

If you could only listen to one song on repeat for the rest of your life, what song would it be?

I really wish I could give you one, but I’m indecisive, so you can pick for me. I top three are Voices by Cheap Trick, Reelin In the Years by Steely Dan, or Chinatown by the Bleachers feat. Bruce Springsteen

What's your favorite KVRX memory?

Probably the KVRX end of the year party last year. It’s was one of the only parties I went to for KVRX and it was plenty of fun. I got to meet a lot of my now friends and that’s when I really felt “part of it”. A lot of us walked together to Lily’s house and walked back at the end of the night in a large pack roaming the streets.

Lastly...what advice would you give to the new DJs?

Go to the events/meeting/rotation/deep listening/etc and just start talking to people. Everyone is welcoming and it’s a great way to make friends.
