What's your position and how long have you been on staff?

I am the PR Director for KVRX. I joined as a PR intern fall of 2021 and continued as an intern in the spring of 2022. Then I finally applied to be the PR Director in the Summer and have been on staff since then! :)

What is your typical day like as a staff member?

On a typical day, as one of the PR Directors, I am usually responding to emails and texts, preparing a posting schedule, and editing blog posts. Once Mary and I agree on a posting schedule we then start preparing the content that has to be put out that day. We try to have a certain amount of posts that go up every week which is why you’ve probably seen Mary and me frantically running around the station asking people to be in the KVRX TikTok with us. Coming up with funny TikTok and Twitter ideas adds to the fun of being a PR Director, along with all the great opportunities that come with it!

What do you do outside of KVRX?

Outside of KVRX, I am a part of UTalent Records as the marketing manager for a band called Young Kids. I am also on the social media team for Afterglow, a music publication, where I help promote articles across all their platforms, but when I am not doing this I am most likely at a concert or listening to music. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and going on spontaneous adventures around town, but we usually end up going to a concert by a local artist. I love doing this because it helps me find my new favorite artist and gives me more music to listen to!!!

What is the name of your show? What is your show about?

My show is called “FANGIRL ON TOUR!” I talk about the latest news in pop culture and dive into other fandoms. As you can probably tell I am always on social media and through this I keep up with things that are trending in the media. I also bring people on my show to talk about their favorite concerts and their experience there. On my show, I usually play a lot of surf punk and alternative rock!

If you could only play one album on your show what album would it be? Why?

I would play ‘Nothing Happens’ by Wallows! This is an album that I always have on repeat, it is such a fun album with high energy. I love this album's catchy beats and how upbeat the guitar is throughout the songs. I also saw them perform this album live, and it was amazing so I would definitely play this album and talk about my experience at their concert on my show!

Favorite concert?

My favorite concert would probably be Harry Styles, Love on Tour in Austin this year! I waited years to see him because I couldn’t go to his last two tours and when he announced he would have a 6-night residency in Austin, I knew I had to go to one of the nights. The energy at the venue was amazing, everyone was dressed in colorful colors and boas. There were multiple photo ops and everything in the Moody Center including the drinks and food was “Harry Styles” themed. Seeing him live was so surreal, still to this day I cannot believe I saw him perform live! He had such a great stage presence and was dancing all around the stage. His band was also great, one of his vocalists/key players, Ny Oh, waved at me during the concert. Everyone in the crowd was also dancing and singing nonstop the whole show; you can just feel the joy in the air! I had so much fun singing and dancing with my friends, overall this concert was so much fun and exceeded my expectations, I would highly recommend you to go to a Harry Styles concert if you can, even if you don’t listen to him, you should still go! <3

If you could have your favorite artist sing you Happy Birthday who would it be and why?

I would want Pedro Fernández to sing me Happy Birthday but in Spanish so… I would want him to sing me Las Mañanitas. I grew up listening to him and having him sing Las Mañanitas to me with a mariachi would be iconic.

If you could only listen to one song on repeat for the rest of your life, what song would it be?

This was such a hard question and after days of thinking about it, I decided to go with a lyricless song, “Merry-Go-Round of Life” by Joe Hisaishi. This song is just perfectly composed, the piano is amazing, the orchestra is amazing, and so is this song! I love how playful this song is and the dynamics throughout the song. All the different instruments just fit perfectly well together and it is such an easy listen.

What's your favorite KVRX memory?

My favorite KVRX memory was probably the 91.7 Hullabaloo show at Hole in the Wall. This was also my first show as one of the PR Directors so it was the first time that I was able to have full creative freedom as to the content that we filmed for social media. Both Shooks and Golden Days brought such an energetic-filled set, the crowd matched the amazing energy of the artist and we were able to capture a lot of cool content which was so much fun!!!

Lastly...what advice would you give to the new DJs?

My biggest advice is to talk to people! Even though it can be scary talking to new people, I would highly recommend you go to events and try to meet people. Everyone is usually super cool and nice, KVRX is such a great place to meet new people! :)
