What's your position and how long have you been on staff?

Social Director and this is my first semester

What is your typical day like as a staff member?

Everyday as a staff member I make sure that this week's socials are all set to run smoothly and I plan the socials for the coming weeks. Most of the time I'm in the station asking people what we should listen to for next weeks Deep Listening (every Wednesday 7pm-10) after I look through the suggestion form.

What do you do outside of KVRX?

Outside of KVRX I work as a runner at a law firm so if you see me in business casual around the station, I probably just got out of work. When I'm not at work I'm probably working on school work or reading. As a government major I do a lot of reading and writing...its not as fun as it sounds.

What is the name of your show? What is your show about?

Silly Time is my freeform show, we're going on three semesters of silliness. I highlight my favorite tunes from various genres and add in silly songs into the mix. Not to mention the sound board I use when talking that adds an extra element of silliness. TUNE IN EVERY FRIDAY 11pm-12 !!!

If you could only play one album on your show what album would it be? Why?

I would play Kick i by Arca in its entirety on Silly Time if I could. There's so many different kinds of songs on this album the same way I play many different kinds of songs on my show. There are completely cracked moments on this album and there was ethereal moments. In other words, it perfectly embodies everything I want Silly Time to be.

Favorite concert?

As embarrassing as it sounds I have to admit that my favorite concert I've been to has to be Drain Gang at Emos. You might think: Jaime the crowd stank so bad and Emos staff had to ask the crowd to take three steps back before the show even started, how could this possibly be your favorite concert experience? Well I'd say that a drain gang show isn't about the quality of the crowd, but the friends we made along the way. In other words I had a lot of fun with my friends and I love DG :p

If you could have your favorite artist sing you Happy Birthday who would it be and why?

If it were up to me I'd have ecco2k sing me happy birthday. What can I say I'm a simple guy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Is it really too much to ask for to have a heavenly voice sing me happy birthday??

If you could only listen to one song on repeat for the rest of your life, what song would it be? Why?

It would have to Tales from the Trash Stratum by Oneohtrix Point Never and Elizabeth Fraser. This beautiful ambient collaboration OPN and Fraser of the Cocteau Twins would be the prefect backing track for just about anything. Having a bad day? Play Tales from the Trash Stratum and cry. Having an amazing day? Play Tales from the Trash Stratum and smile. Having a completely normal day devoid of anything good or bad? Sit and play Tales from the Trash Stratum.

What's your favorite KVRX memory?

My favorite KVRX memory probably has to be the countless rotations that I've been to. Something about seeing my friends at the end of the week and meeting new people is just so fun. This semester I haven't been able to go to rotation because of work and I can't help but miss sitting in the humid music library and catching up with everyone.

Lastly...what advice would you give to the new DJs?

My advice to new DJs would be to not be afraid. It's corny but true! Being around new people is scary and it doesn't help when music nerds are stereotypically stuck up. If we're quiet around you I promise it's not because we hate you, if anything staff is just like you, just a wee bit shy. Stick around! I promise it's worth it...especially if you don't have friends like I did when I first joined.
