I’m DJ Elletse, and I have a freeform show called The Final Frontier!

How did you hear about KVRX and what made you want to do your show?

I’ve always wanted to do college radio. I actually don’t even know the original reason; I’ve just always felt compelled. So I didn’t hear about KVRX, I actively sought it out.

What kind of music do you play on your show and what is its overall theme?

My show is the soundtrack for a story I’m telling about a cowgirl, a fallen star, and a prince from Jupiter who go on some episodic adventures. I promise it makes more sense when you listen! I just really like movie soundtracks, so I wanted to try something like that but make it my own. Music-wise, I like a lot of dream pop, folk, and 80s inspired pop. Lately, I’ve been listening to some soul-pop, so that’s been showing up more. It’s freeform so there’s not like a single genre, but I pick stuff that has an energy and/or cool rhythm to it. I’ve been going for like a kooky cosmic cowboy vibe, so hopefully, that comes across!

What is your favorite part of being a DJ?

My favorite part of being a DJ is also my least favorite part. I love getting to listen to the finished product when it plays in real time, but it’s simultaneously a kind of nail-biting experience. I put a lot of care into each show, so it sort of feels like being on display. But I do love it, in spite of the vulnerability. All of my shows are perfect in my eyes. They’re so cool that I can’t help but be proud of myself every time.

Who are your favorite artists and what are your favorite albums?

My favorite artists and albums are mostly the ones that have stuck with me the longest or have the best memories attached to them!

The artists:

Vampire Weekend

Beach House

Sylvan Esso

Lorde

The 1975

The albums:

Pure Heroine - Lorde

Modern Vampires of the City - Vampire Weekend

I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It - The 1975

Devotion - Beach House

Fetch the Bolt Cutters - Fiona Apple
