Anamanaguchi has been around since the mid-2000s, popularizing the use of 8bit sounds in electronic (essentially making music from the sounds in video games). They even made the Scott Pilgrim vs the World video game soundtrack.
Despite their extensive catalogue of singles, EPs, and soundtracks, [USA] is only their 2nd full length album. 6 years in the making, and it was worth the wait. Returning guest vocalists Meesh and Miku Hatsune (Japanese voice program/pop star) fit in well with other guests, all of whom compliment and balance the sounds of the band.
Every song on [USA] is an absolute banger. There are so many moments where you’re enveloped with sound. Lorem Ipsum and Air On Line are full of shimmering synths, emotional sentiments on Up To You. Every song transports you to a different virtual reality. If you choose to stay in real life, then it feels like each one could describe any point or emotion you’ve felt in your life.
[USA] means everything and nothing at the same time. It’s about a band re-assessing their identity in the intersection of music and culture. It’s about growth, meaning-making, and having fun (plain and simple). You will not regret giving this album a listen. I [redacted] love it.
