Pride month may be wrapping up, but all of us at KVRX believe in celebrating all year long. Pride means a lot of things to a lot of people. This is what we know: the work is ongoing, visibility is a must, and joy will always be something worth fighting for.

Happy, happy pride from all of us at KVRX!

Check out some KVRXer's favorite queer artists.

DJ Tankini: Labi Siffre

Labi Siffre is not only an incredible musician/songwriter, but he’s been very outspoken about the struggles and experiences he’s faced as a black gay man since the 70s. His songs are so tender, they’re often written like love letters to someone of an unspecified gender. Labi met his partner when he was 19 and they stayed together for 50 years until his partner passed.

“Cannock Chase” is a winding journey through yearning.

DJ Dogfish: Javiera Mena

She’s a Chilean pop artist who’s been a lesbian icon in Latin America since her debut in 2006. Her music ranges from indie bedroom pop to dancey synth pop. My favorite album of hers is her debut, Esquemas Juveniles, which translates to ‘juvenile schemes’. The album has a very ahead-of-its-time electronic twee sound full of synths and beautifully layered vocals, and touches on themes of young lesbian love and the secrecy and innocence that comes with it. She was barely 21 when she started working on it!

“Como Siempre Soñé” is a strawberry-shaped thumb drive with pictures of your teenage love.

DJ Duelo: Throbbing Gristle

Performance art band coming out of 70s shock culture in the UK fronted by Genesis P-Orridge, a transhumanist, third-sex, occultist. Loud, extremist, jarring, industrial, sexually confrontational, vile, and hard.

Throbbing Gristle is sticking your head between the bars of the pylon on the side of I-35 you like to look at so much.

DJ Doodlebug: Jealous of the Birds

Jealous of the Birds is the project of Northern Irish artist Naomi Hamilton. She's also a poet! My personal favorite album, Parma Violets, is meditative, retrospective, and so endearing. The perfect artist for a calm summer.

"Tonight I Feel Like Kafka" is a late-night, half-drunk gaze out of your bedroom window.
