I’m DJ emsy of ethereal aesthetics (specialty).

How did you hear about KVRX and what made you want to do your show?

I heard about KVRX through their Instagram my freshman year and have been involved ever since! After doing a freeform show, I wanted to narrow my music choice to one of my favorite genres, shoegaze.

What kind of music do you play on your show and what is its overall theme?

Ethereal aesthetics takes elements of shoegaze and dream pop that drags you away to a wavy, synth-y world. Each week has a bit of a different style that flows together in a perfect way. For example, I once had a show where all the tracks were from pre-shoegaze artists in the late 80s, introducing listeners to the early stages of shoegaze as a subgenre. Every week is a bit different from the last, but each one is ethereal in its own way. It’s perfect for those who want some easy-listening tunes that make you want to hop in a car, drive into the sunset, and make ocean hands out the window!

What is your favorite part of being a DJ?

My favorite part about being a DJ is being able to have a creative outlet where I can explore and share one of my biggest passions: music. I love diving into many different genres and being able to share what I find with listeners is one of the best feelings out there. It’s also great being a part of the KVRX community where we all share the same enthusiasm for music and what it can do for the world.

Who are your favorite artists and what are your favorite albums?

Some of my favorite artists include classics like the Foo Fighters, the Beatles, and IDLES, but also newer artists such as spirit of the beehive, Shura, and Biig Piig (I’ve also been listening to a lot of Pitbull lately but we’re gonna ignore that). My favorite albums right now are good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick, Strange Times by the Chameleons, and Moonlust by the Holydrug Couple.

Listen to ethereal aesthetics every Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
