REVIEW: Colleen Green - Blink 182's "Dude Ranch" as played by Colleen Green

September 06, 2019 in Album Reviews

by DJ Ari

As the story goes, Colleen Green first thought of covering Dude Ranch about 8 years ago. Fast-forward to 2019 and she has released the album; a collection of pop-punk songs covered with only her bass and vocals.

No matter how much of a Blink 182 fan you are, hearing Colleen’s versions sounds like a completely different ballgame. Somehow she took adolescent pop-punk and crude humor songs and turned them into sensitive and harrowing bangers. Case in point: “A New Hope” - a song adoring Princess Leia - makes you feel love, heartbreak, and hope simultaneously.

Stripping these songs down to bass truly takes them to another level; an interesting choice of instrument to use for a cover, but honestly you’re not going to want to hear them with an acoustic guitar. You might want to hear the originals out of curiosity to understand how the heck Colleen put these songs together. You might not. These covers are so great and original, you might find yourself listening to them on loop. I did.
